Happy almost summer! Chattanooga is a truly special place in all seasons, but summer is its own brand of special! Being outdoors, whether you are on the water, in one of our gorgeous parks, attending a music event or just hanging out in your own backyard, summer is a wonderful place in Chattanooga. This weekend is still spring and the weather is still cooler, but the fun to be had is hot! Here are your best bets for fun.
We say it nearly every week, but this is one of the most fun events in Chattanooga. Free music every Friday is one of the highlights of summer. The Nightfall Concert Series is in it's 24th year and has hosted many bands throughout the years that have gone on to be huge successes. These include The Carolina Chocolate Drops, Alison Kraus, Houndmouth, Dawes, Michelle Shocked, Marcia Ball, Barenaked Ladies and more. Tonight, both the opening band and the headliners are top notch. Local band Caney Creek Company opens for Ballroom Thieves and the night promises to be fantastic!
Family Fun Run
Chattanooga Football Club is kicking off it's season with a Family Fun Run. The family friendly 5k it this Saturday and begins at Finley Stadium. Celebrate your family and our fantastic Chattanooga Football Club and their foundation which supports Chattanooga Sports Ministries and Highland Park Commons. Cost is $35 adults/15 kids and registration will be available before the race. 1826 Carter Street.
Rock/ Creek Annual Warehouse and Boat Sale
This is technically not outdoors, but the gear you need to be outdoors. Tomorrow you can get a deal on kayaks, canoes, sleeping bags, and all kinds of gear and clothing to outfit yourself for the great outdoors. All of their high end brands such as Marmot, The North Face and more are on sale 60-70% off. The Annual Warehouse Sale is 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the 1530 Riverside location across from the Boathouse Restaurant. Do not miss!
Once again we are the host city for the 70.3 Ironman! What a great honor to have all the athletes from all over the world and Tennessee compete in our fair city. Sunday there will be road closures as thousands of athletes swim, bike and run all over the downtown and North Georgia areas. You can catch the action along the course, but my personal favorite is the Walnut Street Bridge because you can see the run, bike and the swim from there. The event starts at 6:50 am and can be followed on Twitter. The hashtag is #im703chatt. Map and event details can be found online.
Whatever you do this weekend, we hope you have a fantastic (almost) summer weekend in Chattanooga!
