Did you survive your four day weekend? Are you celebrating Friday? I often think it is harder to get through a four day week than a five day one when it comes to getting through the days. This weekend, I am looking forward to some down time that includes floating down a river and taking in some local art. Basically, I am looking forward to a slower pace. If you are looking forward to the same, I have some lower key suggestions for you. Here are your best bets for this weekend's fun in Chattanooga.
Local Plant Sales
Summer gardens are starting to give up the ghost. My tomatoes are still hanging in there, but they are producing smaller and smaller fruit. Same for the rest of my garden. Luckily, it is fall planting time in Chattanooga. This weekend, Crabtree Farms and Reflection Riding Arboretum and Nature center are offering native plants for sale at there fall plant sales. I love going to these sales, partly because I love chatting with fellow gardeners to see what they have growing and what their tips are. Reflection Riding's sale started today and continues tomorrow until 4pm. Crabtree Farms (my personal favorite) is open tomorrow from 9am-4pm and will features workshops and local items for sale as well. If you have a green thumb, or just want to spruce up your landscaping, head out to the plant sales and chat with a gardener. Free admission, plants vary in price. Crabtree Farms is located at 1000 E. 30th St. and Reflection Riding is located at 400 Garden Road.
Sometimes we need a little relaxation in our routine and this weekend you can try out yoga classes for free as Yoga Landing celebrates four years in Chattanooga. Head to the breezeway at Warehouse Row and join in on a variety of classes ranging from vision meditation to vinyasa. Yoga is free, but donations are accepted with proceeds being donated to Trini Foundation. Sponsored by the newly opened Wildflower Tea Shop & Apothecary and everyone's favorite athletic wear, Lululemon Athletica, the day will include live music and a contemplative walk. Check it out and let yoga be your new addiction. 1110 Market Street. Times are on website.
AVA Gallery Hop
Chattanooga is fortunate to have a thriving arts community and the Association for Visual Arts works to preserve that community. Saturday, you can visit many of the local galleries as well as pop-up exhibits from 2-8pm and take in a variety of local art at the AVA annual Gallery Hop. Jump on the free double decker shuttle bus. With 23 participating galleries and shops, as well as a few pop ups along that you will be hard pressed to take it all in. Refreshments will be available along the course. Saturday 2-8 pm. Various location.
Run of Honor 8k
Finish out your weekend with a charity run sponsored by the Fraternal Order of Police to benefit the Tim Chapin Scholarship Fund. The race starts at the Chattanooga Market and finishes on the 50 yard line at Finley Stadium and includes a tour of one of the most historic areas of Chattanooga. Registration begins at 6:30 with the race starting at 8 am. Online registration is still available.
Whatever you do this weekend, whether it is watching the big games (there are quite a few, but this is the one we are watching) or hanging out and relaxing, we hope you have a spectacular weekend. If you are out and about, visit our open houses in Red Bank and Ringgold.
