Chattanooga is always a fun place to live with many options for weekend fun. However, this weekend the city is almost on overload! Everyone from young children to grownups will have an opportunity for frolicking and getting in the spirit of the season of winter and the holidays. The weather was certainly frightfully gray all week, but cooler temperatures and gorgeous blue skies are on the forecast for this weekend all the way into next week. Here are your best bets for Chattanooga weekend fun December 4-6.
St. Elmo Christmas Market
We love how Chattanooga has some of the most creative people on earth living here. How else can you explain all the wonderful markets around town that rarely have duplicate wares including the Lookout Farmers Market? Today from 4-9pm head to St. Elmo for the St. Elmo Christmas Street Market. Not only will Santa be there, but you can find a corgi parade, hand made crafts, the Chattanooga fire department's vintage truck, a beard competition, a pie competition as well as plenty of food and drinks for everyone. This is one of the coolest and eclectic communities in the Chattanooga area and they do block parties right. Located at the bottom of the Incline, at 3917 St. Elmo Ave. Parking could be an issue, but try parking at Food City.
It is finally cold and so it is time to head down to Ross's Landing in downtown Chattanooga and strap on some skates and hit the ice. Ice on the Landing is one of Chattanooga's newest traditions, returning for a second year with a bigger rink. We went last year and it was one of the most fun things of the season. All ages are welcome and if you are not a top skater, you can rent the training wheels of ice skating. Hours are Friday and Saturday until 11 and 9 on Sunday with different hours during the week. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for kids 12 and under. What a great tradition to start for your family. Located at 100 Riverfront Parkway. Parking is available across the street.
Equal parts block party, winter festival and celebration of the SouthSide of Chattanooga, MainX24 is one of the best things about Chattanooga. From the very eclectic parade (think middle school bands, dogs, racing lawnmowers and modified bicycles) to the open houses of all the local businesses, there is something for everyone at this 24 hour party. The event started in 2007 and has grown with each passing year and is a holiday kick off tradition for many families and people across the city. Beginning with a pancake breakfast at the fire hall and ending with the grande finale breakfast 24 hours later, the interim time is filled with opportunity to taste, see, experience and shop the SouthSide. Activities include ornament painting, postcard making, cake walk, puppet making, bird house building , intro to swing dancing, disc golf clinic, family dance party and human foosball. There are many opportunities to sample food from restaurants and food trucks, live music from buskers to hymn singing and concerts and even a drag show. It is hard to describe this wonderful community event with one word, but the best would be FUN! The full schedule can be found online.
Chattanooga Christmas Market
Sunday, if you have any energy left, head to the Chattanooga Convention Center to the Chattanooga Market's Christmas market. Featuring many of the vendors you have seen all year long, this holiday market showcases some of the best and creative talents of Chattanooga. Get all your holiday shopping done in one stop. The Christmas market is open every weekend in December up until Christmas giving even procrastinators plenty of time to shop. Open Saturday and Sunday 11-5 pm.
We will be out and about all weekend taking in all the Chattanooga weekend fun! We hope to see you out and about as well. Have a great weekend!
If you would enjoy MainX24 and decide you would like to walk to the fun next year, please give us a call! We would love to help you find a home on the SouthSide!
