This is going to be a great weekend. Summer is almost here and this weekend will see the temperatures starting to rise and the opportunities for fun increase. Here are your best bets for fun.
Nightfall Is Back!
Nightfall Concert Series is one of my very favorite things in Chattanooga. The Friday night concert series features up and coming national live acts, food, beverages and a very strong sense of the Chattanooga community as every demographic is represented. All summer, Friday nights in Millers Plaza becomes the ultimate party with kids, dogs and friends gathering to listen to music and enjoy each other's company. Tonight's headliners are Seattle-based funk band Polyrhythmics with local band Opposite Box will be opening the show. Admission free and the music begins at 7 p.m. 850 Market Street.
Homeruns for Heroes
Everyone loves a hero, especially a hometown here. Saturday, Homers for Heroes will be held at ATT&T field, home of theChattanooga Lookouts to raise money to help one such person, Nathan Sexton. We could not say it any better so, from the official Facebook page: "In June of 2015, this amazing father and husband was acing his work as vice president of operations at Bellhops when he suffered three major seizures. He was soon diagnosed with a grade 4 glioblastoma multiforme, an aggressive brain tumor that brings with it a short life expectancy. Since then, Nathan’s been busy. While he battles the tumor, he’s kept up his great work at Bellhops. He wrote for Forbes about how cancer made him a better leader. In between rounds of chemo, he ran the Chattanooga half marathon with 40 coworkers and smoked each one of them." The event will be held 12 noon to 5pm and supports Nathan Sexton in his quest for treatment.
Dragon Boat Races
Get your blood pumping to the sound of the drumbeats of the Dragon boat drummers on Saturday at the TVA Park at Chickamauga Dam. Teams race in authentic 46-foot Hong Kong style boats to raise money for the Children's Hospital at Erlanger. This year is the 10th annual event. Info and start times can be found online. 8 am-3 pm.
Mothers Day at the Chattanooga Market
If you don't mind a crowd, Sunday is a great day to multi-task at the Chattanooga Market. Treat your mom or your wife to a selection of wines and champagnes along with an assortment of locally made treats as she enjoys live music. This is the ultimate place to treat mom to a shopping spree for local art, jewelry and more. Always a popular destination on Mother's Day, I recommend going early or after 2pm. The Chattanooga Market is open 11am-4pm and features food trucks and local vendors every Sunday.
Have a wonderful weekend! Get out and enjoy the wonderful city that we love!
